DIY Art Corner

With the Spring season approaching comes the desire to organize, purge & re-design! I have a few projects (mostly furniture painting & artwork hanging) that I would like to accomplish in the coming months before summer hits but a recent need has inspired my 1st spring project!

As a work at home mom, I rely on nap time (as well as evenings, weekends & a supportive husband!) to get my work done. There is always something to do from sketching new ideas, ongoing new paintings, custom orders, emails, etsy posting, etc. etc. etc.!

Lately, nap time has been hit and miss, so I had the idea to incorporate a little afternoon art time for both of us at the same time in the same room! I'm sure like most people who work from home, my studio space is a catch all room; work space, computer area, storage and guest room. So why not add another function (!) and develop the entry corner of the room into a small art space for my son!

The main wall I will be using...a blank canvas!

 

 

The space is appox 40" wide (with the door open) by 26" deep with standard height walls. The room is mostly white with an accent wall in this apple green.

The art corner will be for mostly 'dry' arts & crafts, lots of drawing and sticker work as those are favourite activities. Plus I want it to be a space where he can be creative in a safe (and relatively clean) way while I am steps away (hopefully) being creative myself!

I'll incorporate a table, chair, desk light (he would love to have one "like Mommy"), storage for crayons, markers, papers, stickers, etc. & a display area for his drawings. Oh, did I mention I'm going to do this without spending ANY MONEY?!?!?! Well, that's the plan anyway! I thought it would be a fun challenge to see if I can make a cute space just using my creativity and supplies on hand. I'm going to document my process on the blog - I can't wait for the final space!
