I decided to base the decor concepts around my recent 1...2...3...Butterflies painting. I love butterflies (if you don't know that already) and thought that the warm, neutral tones would easily work with 2 different colour schemes and styles. Here goes!
butterflies in orange + brown
This 1st decor concept brings out the warm tones of the monarch butterfly in nature. Choosing decor elements in warm parchment, yellow and orange tones with a hint of brown, I envision this nursery to have light walls and rustic wood furniture.
Mobile: This modern bird mobile by Little Nest Box (an etsy find from the UK) is a playful connection to the butterflies in flight. The handmade felt birds in yellow, ochre and ivory and natural wood hoop relate to nature and provide little spots of bright colour.
Storage Bin: The orange & brown Owl storage bin by 3 Sprouts is a functional and cute design element. I think its fun to mix animals together by a common element, in this case wings!
Crib Blanket: The wildflowers and peeking brown bunnies in this organic Meadow crib blanket by Amenity would accompany an organic cotton crib sheet, a rustic wood crib and (hopefully) many sleep-filled nights!
Decorative Pillow: This cheerful decorative pillow by Whimsy Sweet Whimsy contrasts natrual burlap material with a pop of orange! I could see this pillow on a chair, in a little reading nook on the floor, and later in the crib/on the bed.
butterflies in mint + gold
Now for the 2nd decor concept based on the butterfly painting, I decided to bring in a little cool colour to compliment the golden tones of the painting. I was thinking this nursery decor concept could have a bit of a vintage feel to it by including a white heirloom rocking chair, painted furniture in a light teal and a pre-loved wooden dollhouse. I envision worn wwhite-painted wood floors, a mint wall colour and a mix of light wood, painted and vintage furnishings.
Wall Banner: This decorative fabric banner by A Little Frayed would add a whimsical feel to the nursery and contrast the warm colours of the monarch butterflies. I could see it hanging as a point of interest on the wall above the change table.
Crib Bedding: The soft spearmint of this cotton crib sheet by Mod Fox would reflect this colour concept perfectly and be the inspiration for the wall colour. The cool mint colour would repeat in the crib bedding, the fabric banner, the wall colour and the decorative poms.
Decorative Poms: Instead of a mobile, I would hang a grouping of 3 paper poms in white, cool mint and harvest gold in varying sizes above the crib. These poms are from Party Poms and they have an amazing array of colours to choose from. I hung 3 poms in the corner of the nursery above my son's crib and it was a great way to bring together a colour scheme and add a pop of colour in a simple way.
Rattle: I thought this simple rattle/teething toy was beautifully made out of wood and crochet beads by etsy shop Nihamaj . It just fits in so well with my colour concept, I couldn't resist!
So there it is - 2 nursery decor concepts based on 1 painting. What do you think? I'd love to hear which decor concept you like best! Comment below...
