Valentine's Day is approaching & I'm looking for quick, fun and unique crafts to do with my toddler son. I thought I would share a couple of my favourite Valentine & heart crafts here and if you create any cute crafts that you would like to share, please post a pic over on my facebook page! I'll be sharing what we create including a tiny brushstrokes original. I'll divide my favourites into categories...
1. For those with little time & a toddler who likes quick crafts...
So first up is a quick and easy, few supplies (and patience) required craft by the amazing Martha Stewart. Of course she has many fabulous ideas, but this one would be perfect for any short attention span toddlers and reluctantly crafty parents!
2. For those with a bit more prep time, a couple supplies on hand & an interested little crafter....
While surfing through Pinterest, I came across a great website called Inner Child Fun that had some awesome ideas for kid friendly Valentine's crafts. This next one is part craft & part activity. It requires a bit of prep by the crafty parent but is super simple and yummy! Its felt heart shaped cookie decorating! She calls it My Kind of Baking & I call it a fun idea! I know my son is always making "food" and loves to pretend to eat and cook etc.
All that is required really is felt and a heart shaped cookie cutter. I think you could take this craft further if you wanted beyond the activity stage, and break out the glue to attach the icing and sprinkles to the cookie and stick a cardboard backing and magnet on the back for DIY fridge magnets or functional Valentine's to give to grandparents etc.

3. For a family craft idea, with a little time and a couple supplies...
Here is another cute & easy craft I came across, this time from a site called Spoonful. Using coloured construction paper (or scrapbooking paper, etc.) you create little elephants out of various heart shapes, googly eyes, marker messages and stickers. I would take this craft further by creating one elephant per family member and even add the elephant body using a large heart (upside down), some legs & a ribbon tail. I like their idea of adding little messages to the elephant trunks, very cute.

Or make each family member a little fish out of heart shapes and add to a Valentines underwater scene....
I hope these ideas have inspired you to get a bit crafty with your little one this Valentine's season. Please share with me what crafts you are planning to do and share any pics on my tiny brushstrokes facebook page or email me wendy@tinybrushstrokes.ca to share here on my blog. I'd love to see what creative ideas and projects you have. I will be sharing my finished projects as well!
Now, off to prep the felt heart shaped cookies for tomorrow!!
